North Carolina's judicial system saw a reshuffling as Governor Josh Stein appointed a new face to the District Court. The seat for Judicial District 36, which covers Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba Counties, has been filled by Matthew Cabe. The announcement yesterday came following the elevation of Judge Sherri Elliott to the Superior Court, leaving a vacancy behind her.
In a statement obtained by the Governor's office, Governor Stein lauded the new appointee, "Matt has more than two decades of experience as an attorney in the 36th District, and I am proud to appoint him to the District Court." Stein also highlighted Cabe's Morganton roots and his extensive experience as a litigator, noting, "he is the right person for the job, and I look forward to his service."
Cabe's legal career is well-rooted in North Carolina. After obtaining both his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he served the 36th District from the trenches of small private practices. Cabe has recently been running the Cabe Law Firm as a solo practitioner in Morganton and previously honed his legal chops at the Law Office of Bob Ledford. This trajectory has established him as a seasoned advocate familiar with the community and its legal intricacies.
With this new appointment, Governor Stein continues to shape the judicial landscape of North Carolina, seemingly preferring candidates with deep local ties and substantial practical experience. The appointment of Cabe is set to bring a Morganton native's perspective to the District Court, marrying local insights with legal expertise.
