Hawaii's Governor Josh Green, M.D. and the state's Department of Taxation have launched a new website, TaxCutHawaii.org, aimed at helping Hawaiian taxpayers understand the state's income tax cut and figure out their personal savings. Announced today, the online tool provides a tax rate calculator, a comprehensive FAQ section, and educational resources on changes stemming from the largest tax cut in Hawaii's history.

The site was developed to give residents a clearer view of the tax landscape, especially with revised tax brackets and standard deduction amounts set to impact incomes through 2031. After last year's legislative move, Act 46, Session Laws of Hawaii 2024, many Hawaiian families are expected to see increased take-home pay and reduced tax burdens. The law, hailed as a significant break for taxpayers, particularly aims to aid households earning $150,000 or less with tax savings, a family of four making $88,000 a year will save about $20,000 in state taxes over the next five years, in a statement obtained by the Office of the Governor.

"With our historic tax cut in effect, thousands of working families statewide are now seeing more money in their paychecks and bigger tax refunds, with even more savings on the way," Governor Green explained. The governor praised the Legislature for passing the tax reform, emphasizing its role in making life more affordable for kama'āina, according to the press release.

The 2024 tax reform automatically applies the new rates and deductions when filing state tax returns, meaning people saw the changes take effect as early as this January. Employers and payroll providers, have been updated with new withholding tables from the Department of Taxation, leading to reduced state income tax deductions for employees. The website is part of the state's commitment to transparent communication with residents about tax law impacts and financial planning.
