Hillsborough County is getting some much-needed road improvements, thanks to a multimillion-dollar deal approved this past Wednesday. The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) gave the green light to a tri-party agreement involving the Florida Department of Transportation, Plant City, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and ZooTampa. This deal secures a hefty $17.1 million in state financial assistance specifically earmarked for road resurfacing projects around the county.
The injection of cash comes from the Transportation Surtax funds previously collected, ensuring each party receives their cut of the appropriation directly from the FDOT. It's a significant step for local infrastructure, particularly for an area frequented by residents and tourists alike. The BOCC meeting recap, detailed on the Hillsborough County's newsroom page, lays out the specifics of this financial boon.
In addition to bolstering roads, the BOCC moved to support the community in other crucial ways. They passed a resolution to allocate $150,510 to A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay, a notable organization dedicated to providing residential foster care for children lifted from homes shadowed by neglect, abuse, or abandonment. This funding slice is intended for the construction of two restrooms at the organization’s future activity center in Brandon.
Keeping a focus on the county's future and the safety of its children, A Kid's Place continues to function as a beacon of hope. As detailed in the Hillsborough County's official communications, this non-profit provides critical support services alongside its fostering care. The new facilities will be a welcome addition to the organization's expanding capacity to serve Tampa Bay's most vulnerable inhabitants. The BOCC's funding gesture underscores the ongoing commitment to nurture those in dire need of protection and support.
