Vegas weather is looking less than ideal for the weekend, with gusty winds expected. The National Weather Service predicts southwesterly winds gusting between 20 and 25 knots through the afternoon, with calmer winds (under 10 knots) only arriving in the evening.
Gusty winds are set to blast through there with "40 to 45 mph westerly wind gusts" continuing well into Saturday mid-morning, as stated by NWS. Also, if you find yourself up north in Lincoln County this weekend, sprinkle on a little precipitation—a "20 to 40% chance of isolated showers" will be rolling through on Saturday.
For those eagerly eying the skies, the aviation weather report doesn't offer much reprieve either. Harry Reid's forecast anticipates "sustained speeds may fall to less than 10 knots for periods in the late afternoon," before picking right back up into the evening. Pilots can expect a scenic view of "SCT to BKN mid and upper level clouds" as they fly into or out of Vegas, with the weather script for the upcoming days filled with similarly blustery conditions, as per NWS.
The active weather will stick around through the weekend and into next week, especially on Monday and Tuesday when a trough moves through. Areas along the I-15 corridor, western Inyo County, and the southern Great Basin could see gusts over 40 mph. There's also a chance of strong winds in the lee of the Sierra and Spring Mountains.
There’s a 10-40% chance of showers in the Sierra and southern Great Basin from Monday to Wednesday, but the Mojave will stay dry. Temperatures will be near or below seasonal norms.
