Holly Springs Unveils New Middle Creek Greenway to Connect Communities and Promote Outdoor ActivitiesSource: Town of Holly Springs

Holly Springs celebrated St. Patrick's Day with more than just the wearin' o' the green—residents swung into spring with the unveiling of a new 3-mile stretch of pavement designed for the town's two-legged and four-legged movers and shakers. Last Monday, Holly Springs Mayor Sean Mayefskie, alongside town officials and community members, inaugurated the Middle Creek Greenway, a pristine path catering to walkers, cyclists, and pets alike.

Giving brief respite from busy roads, the greenway threads between Sunset Lake Road and Holly Springs Road, stitching together nearby neighborhoods like Arbor Creek and Bridgewater with Sunset Ridge North and Woodcreek. According to an announcement on the Town of Holly Springs website, Mayor Mayefskie stated, "Residents have made it clear, that greenways and trails are a top priority for investment." In sharp contrast, Mayor Mayefskie further highlighted the greenway's future role in linking Holly Springs to the neighboring town of Apex.

This greenway not only boosts the town's greenway network from 12 to 15 miles but also lays down the first steps towards a more interconnected community, with plans to eventually connect all the way to downtown Holly Springs. While the rubber meets the road on this new path, it does so with an eye to the environment. Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Director LeeAnn Plumer told the town's website that maintaining the tree canopy and respecting the wetlands and natural stream corridor of Middle Creek were crucial in developing the greenway.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony witnessed residents pouring onto the trail, eager to soak in Middle Creek Greenway's scenic vista and hunting for "pots of gold"—a festive treasure hunt of sorts where prizes beckoned those with the luck of the Irish, as mentioned on the Town of Holly Springs website.
