Early Friday morning, a burglary suspect in northwest Houston was met with force when the owners of a mechanic shop on West 18th Street shot and detained him during a break-in. The incident, as reported by Click2Houston, occurred around 1:40 a.m. when the owners, acting on high alert due to a previous burglary, confronted the individual as he was attempting to significantly depart from the property.

According to Houston Police Department, the suspect had returned to the scene after initially burglarizing the shop days earlier. The owners, having witnessed the suspect on their newly installed security cameras equipped with sensors and additional lighting, rushed to the location and were faced with aggression by the intruder. This confrontation led one of the owners to defensively shoot the suspect in the abdomen. KHOU 11 News quoted the business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, stating, "He found out tonight that he doesn't get away with everything."

An employee from a nearby Jack in the Box played a pivotal role in the incident by helping to subdue the suspect until law enforcement arrived on the scene. The injured man, believed to be in his 40s, was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries. As of now, no charges have been filed against the business owners, who are said to be fully cooperating with investigators, as per Click2Houston.

The family-owned mechanic shop has been a staple in the area for over 30 years. The owners conveyed to KHOU 11 News the gravity of the repeat thefts and how they threatened their livelihood. Surveillance footage from the prior incident showed the man loading stolen equipment onto his pickup truck, prompting the owners to upgrade their security in preparation for what they feared was an inevitable return. They didn't have to wait long to put the new system to the test. The shop owner summarized the suspect's readiness for the illicit activity, saying, "That backpack is full of every tool imaginable to do every job imaginable."

The suspect's future in crime is uncertain, but local business owners stopped his recent attempt. His condition and legal situation are still being investigated.
