A Houston woman is facing serious allegations after her young nephew, who has special needs, was found unattended on a busy roadway. Sade K. Stewart, 31, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, as reported by FOX26 Houston. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the 3-year-old boy, who is non-verbal and autistic, was discovered wandering alone on W. Mount Houston Road.
After receiving 911 calls, Harris County Constable Precinct One deputies found the child barefoot and alone on the median just after 5 a.m. The child had walked nearly half a mile from the apartment complex where his aunt was supposed to be caring for him. When his mother returned around 6 a.m. and found her son missing, she called the authorities, leading to Stewart's arrest, according to FOX26 Houston.
"We are grateful to the members of the community who spotted this young boy and prevented possible tragedy," Constable Alan Rosen stated, highlighting the critical role the public played in ensuring the child's safety. This sentiment echoes across ABC13's coverage of the incident. Despite her arrest, details regarding Stewart's charge have not been fully disclosed. It's been shared by FOX26 Houston that Stewart's mugshot was not immediately available in Harris County Jail records. Meanwhile, in response to the event, Child Protective Services were promptly contacted by the deputies on the scene, ushering in the sobering reminder, "We must remember to take care of our children, especially the most vulnerable members of our society," as Rosen put it.
