Drivers can finally take a sigh of relief as the North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced the reopening of a vital stretch of Interstate 40, after it was ravaged by Hurricane Helene back in late September, a section connecting North Carolina to Tennessee is set to be back in business this weekend, and though it's only one lane open in each direction from Exit 20 to Exit 15, and from Exit 7 to the state line, it's progress.
According to the N.C. Department of Transportation's release, the interstate will cater to standard-sized trucks while still prohibiting oversized loads; drivers should beware as the zone remains peppered with work areas, signaling construction might still be an ongoing affair and a reminder that the road to full recovery can be incremental and fraught with caution, they can keep tabs on all things traffic at DriveNC.gov.
