Jeff Poley steps into the interim role at the helm of the State and Local Government Finance Division (SLGFD), a position announced following the imminent departure of Deputy Treasurer Debbie Tomasko, according to a statement from the State Treasurer of North Carolina.
Poley's prior accomplishments include the rapid development of the Hurricane Helene Cashflow Loan Program, which was established in a tight seven-week timespan to provide financial relief to communities in western North Carolina and, as noted by State Treasurer of North Carolina, Poley's efficiency and established local government ties are major factors in his current appointment to oversee further leadership; Briner stated, “Jeff has already proven to be a huge asset for the department.”
The duties of the SLGFD, as laid out in the State Treasurer of North Carolina's recent press release, revolve around the handling of state and local debt through sales and delivery, along with providing fiscal health monitoring and assistance in the debt issuance process for more than 1,100 local government units in North Carolina.
Amidst his extensive 28-year background as a bond lawyer and his scholarly pursuits at Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill, Poley has excluded himself from becoming the permanent Division head, thereby prompting the department to initiate a nationwide hunt for a successor, though, in the meantime Chief of Staff Eric Naisbitt will take control of the loan program Poley previously managed.
