In the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday, a GMC Denali was reported stolen from a residence in the 81500 block of Rancho Santana Drive, La Quinta. The La Quinta Special Enforcement Team swung into action, launching an investigation that would eventually lead to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of 44-year-old Cris Clayton Jackson. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, the crime was initially reported at 7:35 a.m., although the theft occurred around 2:30 a.m.
The SET officers managed to locate the missing GMC near the casinos in Indio. The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner, apparently undamaged but lighter in weight from its interiors. Further details from a press release by the Riverside Sheriff's Office indicate that Jackson, who was already under Post Release Community Supervision, was captured in the 82100 block of Avenue 50 in Indio and apprehended without incident.
During a search of Jackson's residence, detectives found property belonging to the victim. The evidence supported the charges that were to follow.
Authorities are continuing to seek anyone with information about the case. They encourage potential witnesses to come forward and reach out to the Thermal Station of the Riverside Sheriff’s Office at (760) 863–8990. Tips can also be reported through Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP(7867).
