The Eaton County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance from the public in what has evolved into a homicide investigation. After a structural blaze on February 10 was extinguished on East Vermontville Highway in Windsor Township, human remains were uncovered amongst the ashes. The remains were later identified as belonging to Lance Pollo, a 38-year-old man from Lansing. The sheriff's office, in collaboration with local fire authorities and state forensic scientists, is piecing together the circumstances that led to Pollo's death.
Details surrounding the case emerged when the sheriff's office and the Windsor Township Fire Department responded to a call about a fire at a property on East Vermontville Highway involving two outbuildings. Information shared by Eaton County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page mentions that after the fire was tackled and subdued, skeletal remains were discovered among the debris.
Investigators have coordinated efforts with the University of Michigan Sparrow Medical Examiner's Office and Michigan State Police Forensic Science Division to uncover Pollo's identity. Last week, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab confirmed the identity of the remains.
Officials are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward, as even small details could help solve the case.
