Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Hosts Free Community Boot Camp for Aspiring FirefightersSource: Google Street View

The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR) has got a treat for locals over the age of 14. Join in on a free community boot camp on Sunday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to noon, held at the LVFR Training Center located at 633 N. Mojave Ave. According to an announcement from the city of Las Vegas, this event is not just about breaking a sweat; it's an interactive initiation into the world of firefighting.

Interactive and informative—the boot camp allows future firefighter hopefuls to mingle with LVFR staff and glean insights on what it takes to tackle the training academy, but that's not all, aspiring firefighters can also get a taste of the physical rigors that define firefighting with seasoned firefighters leading the workout, creating an atmospherethat's equally challenging and educational.

LVFR is kicking off a new recruitment drive in June 2025, inviting the community to learn about the hiring process. Those 18 and older with a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to pass a written exam and physical fitness test can apply. Candidates with EMT or paramedic certifications, wildfire, military, or veteran experience, or bilingual skills may have an advantage.

The LVFR Explorer Program, aimed at those ages 15-21, will open for new recruits this July. It offers mentorship and training, giving young people early exposure to the fire service and a head start before beginning their careers. Those interested in the boot camp, firefighter recruitment, or the LVFR Explorer Program can contact Jordan Moore, the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer, at [email protected].
