As spring break approaches, the City of Las Vegas is giving locals a chance to jump into the world of aquatic safety with its lifeguard training programs. Taught at Municipal Pool and Pavilion Center Pool, these sessions are aimed at preparing attendees for the American Red Cross lifeguard certification. For those looking to dive in during spring break, trainings are scheduled for March 18-21 and April 11-13 at 431 E. Bonanza Road, and March 17-20, plus the same April dates, at 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive, as reported by the City of Las Vegas announcement.

Those interested in syncing their strokes with some fitness can participate in a new "Adult Swim & Fit" class starting March 6 at Municipal Pool. The class welcomes beginners and intermediate swimmers every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. It costs $3 for adults aged 18-49 and $2 for those 50 and older, with monthly and three-month passes available for purchase. Individuals can call 702.229.6309 to find out more or to enroll, as detailed by the City of Las Vegas.

For future lifeguards and swim instructors, additional certification opportunities are on the spring calendar. These include lifeguard instructor training, lifeguard training reviews, and water safety instructor certification courses. A major incentive is the training course price of $160, which will be waived for participants who commit to working as a city lifeguard or swim instructor from mid-May through August, as long as they successfully complete the course and pass the necessary swim test, according to the City of Las Vegas.

Young people as young as 15 can start their summer jobs early by taking lifeguard training classes. The City of Las Vegas is hiring about 50 lifeguards, 30 water safety instructors, front desk assistants, and pool managers for the summer. Being bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus. After completing the courses, interviews will be held immediately, with hiring fairs on April 12 at Pavilion Center Pool and April 26 at Municipal Pool. These fairs include interviews and onboarding. Applicants can sign up online in advance for an interview slot. For more information, the City of Las Vegas offers a "Splash for Cash" brochure with details on the training and job opportunities.
