The latest weather update from the National Weather Service in Las Vegas indicates a continuing trend of breezy conditions along the Colorado River Valley, with the added development of a gradual warming trend expected to take effect through the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, "Breezy north winds will persist one more day along the Colorado River Valley. Otherwise, light winds with a gradual warming trend are expected through the weekend." A significant high-pressure ridge is predicted to influence the weather early next week, potentially pushing temperatures well above normal.
In the short term, the forecast discusses a ridge building in the area that will result in generally light winds and moderating temperatures. "Building high pressure in the Great Basin will keep north-south pressure gradients elevated and allow for north winds to persist down the Colorado River Valley today," the National Weather Service reported. However, the winds are expected to be weaker than they were previously. While there is some expected cloud cover and breezes on the horizon due to a weak shortwave lifting into the area, the overall impact on weather conditions is anticipated to be minimal.
Looking toward the end of the week and into early next week, the weather outlook turns notably warmer. "Models are in good agreement that an upper level ridge will move from the eastern Pacific Ocean into the West Coast Friday and Saturday, amplifying Sunday and early next week," according to the National Weather Service forecast. By Monday, surface temperatures are projected to rise to about 10 degrees above normal. This uptick in heat will be of particular concern to those who are susceptible to heat effects, especially without adequate cooling or hydrating measures in place. The National Weather Service also suggests a "50 percent probability of reaching 90 degrees next Wednesday" for Las Vegas.
For aviation, the Harry Reid International Airport should expect northeast breezes throughout the morning, potentially reaching 10 knots, with a transition to lighter winds later in the day. "Skies begin clear but SCT to BKN clouds above 15kft move in this evening," the forecast outlines. Across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California, the general expectation is for VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions to prevail, along with similar winds and cloud patterns. The National Weather Service also took the opportunity to remind spotters to report any significant weather or impacts using standard procedures.
