A Lehigh County man has entered a guilty plea for charges related to child exploitation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced. George “Travis” Woodfield of Macungie, confessed to transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and accessing child pornography. The plea was entered before United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson, Jr.

Indicted by a federal grand jury last December, Woodfield’s transgressions span several years. Admitting to the heinous acts, the defendant drove an 11-year-old child to New York City in November 2018, meant for a disturbing goal. During their stay, in a hotel room, the child was sexually abused by Woodfield. According to court filings, Woodfield had accessed material depicting children in sexually explicit conduct from as early as September 2015 to as recently as July 2024. This included the appalling imagery of prepubescent children being sexually abused, as reported by the Justice Department.

Woodfield's sentencing, scheduled for July 1, could result in a tenure stretching from ten years to life imprisonment. These proceedings surface from the concerted efforts under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative led by the U.S. Department of Justice since 2006. The program seeks to galvanize federal, state, and local forces against the rising tide of child sexual exploitation and abuse, primarily Internet-facilitated crimes.

The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI’s Philadelphia and Richmond offices, with Project Safe Childhood's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section lending a crucial hand. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rebecca J. Kulik, along with CEOS Senior Trial Attorney Jennifer T. Leonardo and Trial Attorney Jessica L. Urban, will prosecute the case, as stated by the Justice Department.
