As residents in Milwaukee and surrounding areas wake up to another chilly morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a forecast that anticipates light snowfall early in the day. "A 20 percent chance of snow before 9am," the NWS Milwaukee notes, signaling a slightly snowy start today.
With temperatures around freezing, snow is not expected to significantly affect morning commutes, with the NWS reporting only minor accumulations on grassy areas. The rest of the day is expected to see mostly sunny weather, though brisk winds may make it feel colder.
In addition to the brief snow, the wind is a key factor in today’s weather. The NWS forecasts strong westerly gusts up to 40 MPH, especially along the Lake Michigan shoreline, which may make conditions feel brisk for those near the waterfront. However, inland areas can expect a calmer atmosphere as the week progresses, with a high around 45 degrees and winds easing later in the evening.
Looking ahead, the city is set to experience mostly clear skies tonight, setting the stage for what appears to be a mostly sunny Tuesday. Temperatures aim to inch up slightly, with "a high near 46," according to the NWS Milwaukee forecast. However, a frosty Tuesday night is on the cards, with the low dropping to around 28 degrees and a light northeast wind in play.
The midweek outlook keeps a stable pattern, as we're set to mostly steer clear of precipitation with predominantly sunny days ahead through Thursday. The NWS highlights an evening low around 33 degrees on Wednesday night, a precursor to a warmer Thursday where temperatures could reach the mid-50s. The forecast includes a 40 percent chance of rain as we move into Thursday night.
Weekend forecasts indicate typical spring variability, with rain chances ranging from 40 to 60 percent. A significant system may bring substantial precipitation from Saturday into Sunday. While the NWS Milwaukee has not activated weather spotters, they have noted that this outlook is subject to change.
