Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) announces day camps for local youth, running from June 16 through August 22. According to the city's official announcement, registration starts early at 9:00 a.m. on April 12th.
Designed for kids ages 5 to 12, Summer Park Camps are brimming with an assortment of activities, including crafts, games, and other physical fitness and enrichment programs. Extended care options are also available. Enrolling the children in the regular day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. will cost $115 per week, while the extended care stretching from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. runs at $150 weekly.
The city has laid out several locations where the Summer Park Day Camps will unfold, spanning from Bixby to Stearns Champions Park.
In addition to dry land escapades, PRM is diving into water-based activities with two aquatics day camps. At both Belmont Junior Beach Camp for the littles and Bayshore Beach Camp for the slightly older guppies, activities include beach play, kayaking, canoeing, and American Red Cross swimming lessons. Marine biology lessons are also available for the older kids. The aquatics camps are priced with a weekly cost of $165 for the regular daytime fun, and $28 for those early birds or late stayers needing extended care for morning or afternoon sessions, or $56 for both.
For those without the convenience of a home computer or smartphone, the city is deploying staff to various parks armed with internet-ready devices to aid in the self-registration process. Starting at 8:00 a.m. but not opening registrations until 9:00 a.m., on April 12, these locations include Bixby, Pan American, Silverado, and Veterans Park, plus Whaley Park for good measure. Additionally, Long Beach Public Library branches are also welcoming community members to use their computer labs for registration purposes.
