Los Angeles is preparing as it eyes the global stage for some of the world's biggest sporting events in the next few years, and Mayor Karen Bass is at the forefront of strategizing this initiative. She's ringleading the coordination efforts with federal and regional leaders to make sure the city comes out with sustainable gains. The stakes are high with the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games up on the horizon, and according to Mayor Bass, she's aiming for a legacy that spans beyond the end of these events, saying, "It’s my goal that the coming world events benefit every part of our city and region."

U.S. Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove is echoing this sentiment, drumming up pride and anticipation for when the spotlight turns towards the city. "All eyes will be on the United States for the next decade of international sporting events. As the host of seven major competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Los Angeles will take center stage," she boasted, stressing the importance of a tight-knit federal-local partnership for pulling off these global showcases, stated a report by the Mayor's Office.

At a recent assembly called by Mayor Bass, brass from different fields gathered to share their experiences for the success of these games. Input came from Kathryn Schloessman, president of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, Reynold Hoover, LA28's CEO, and Stephanie Wiggins, the Metro’s head honcho. One of these planners was Paul Krekorian, the Executive Director of the Office of Major Events. Krekorian, according to the same Mayor's office report, is the point person Mayor Bass appointed to make sure every moving part from city departments to external stakeholders is greased up for maximum efficiency and impact.

The meeting also saw several members of the LA County Congressional Delegation, such as U.S. Representatives Judy Chu, Gil Cisneros, Laura Friedman, and Derek Tran.
