
Early Thursday morning, chaos struck the Mount Pleasant Street neighborhood as a man wielding a metal pole caused a commotion in a local establishment. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the scene at the 3100 block of Mount Pleasant Street, Northwest, at approximately 8:34 a.m., on Thursday. The suspect had reportedly been smashing property before he decided to make a run for it.
Responding to the emergency call, Third District officers confronted a man described as being armed and disruptive, who then assaulted officers as they tried to arrest him. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Lemus, engaged in a struggle with the police but was eventually apprehended. Found at the scene, a metal pole served as a dangerous extension of his intent.
Lemus now faces multiple charges stemming from the incident. "The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Lemus, was charged with Assault with A Dangerous Weapon (Pole), Destruction of Property, two counts of Assault On A Police Officer (Simple Assault) and Failure To Appear," as outlined by the police report.
