Manteca is launching a broad campaign this week to tamp down on unsafe driving, with a beefed-up police presence looking to catch violations ranging from texting to speeding. The partnership, announced by the Manteca Police Department, includes a coalition of San Joaquin County law enforcement agencies; they will collaborate on a Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) focused on reducing traffic collisions and promoting safer driving habits within the community.

The Manteca Police Department's social media post details that you might see more cops from neighboring Tracy, Ripon, Lodi, San Joaquin County, Lathrop, Stockton, and the California Highway Patrol on Manteca's streets – all in the name of road safety, this initiative involves over 25 traffic officers from the participating police agencies spreading out across the city to enforce traffic laws and issue tickets for California Vehicle Code violations.

The enforcement will specifically target driving behaviors such as unsafe speed, rights-of-way infractions, impaired driving, unsteady turning motions, and disregard for stop signs, as well as the problematic but pervasive practice of using a handheld cell phone while driving; these particular violations have been identified as common causes of traffic accidents in the Manteca area.

Manteca PD is asking the community to help ensure road safety by slowing down, staying alert, avoiding distractions like cell phones, and reporting reckless driving. These simple steps can prevent accidents and save lives, with public awareness being key to the program's success.
