Last Friday, what started as a routine response to a traffic obstruction by Marysville Police Department, quickly escalated into a much more serious incident involving drugs and firearms. Officers arrived at the scene where a Ford Fusion was blocking B Street and 9th Street intersections, with the driver unconscious behind the wheel. Describing the situation, the Marysville Police Department's Facebook post noted the vehicle was running, in drive, and the driver’s foot was on the brake during this potentially hazardous situation.
Upon being awakened by the officers, the driver exhibited unmistakable signs of intoxication and confessed to consuming a heavy dose of Xanax. The investigation that ensued led to a startling discovery: not only was the driver impaired, but he was also armed. "During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded stolen handgun on the driver's person, along with 87 Xanax pills," the Marysville Police Department detailed in their social media update.
A background check confirmed that the driver was no stranger to the law, being on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS), and having a history of prior felony convictions. With multiple felony charges, he was promptly taken into custody. Marysville Police Department has vocalized their commitment "to ensuring public safety and keeping our roads secure," a principle they claimed to uphold through interventions such as this one.
