Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker presented the FY2026 budget to the City Council this week, which focuses on public safety, clean and green initiatives, education, and economic opportunity. The proposal, called the 'One Philly 2.0 Budget,' includes a $6.7 billion allocation aimed at improving the quality of life for Philadelphia residents, according to the City of Philadelphia,

Mayor Parker addressed the plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia on January 31, recognizing the efforts of city workers and emergency responders. She said, "I am proud to return today, as the 100th Mayor of our Great City of Philadelphia, having submitted my Proposed Fiscal Year 2026 Budget, Five-Year Plan and Recommended Capital Budget and Program to City Council for its consideration." She reported a 37% decrease in homicides and a 36% decrease in shootings, attributing this to community policing and intervention programs. She also mentioned the cleaning of 67,000 city streets and the towing of over 11,000 abandoned vehicles, calling it "INTERGOVERNMENTAL COLLABORATION AT ITS BEST!" Additionally, she announced plans for 25 new extended day and year programs, providing 7,000 enrichment opportunities and $124 million in funding for schools over five years, as reported by the City of Philadelphia.

The 'One Philly 2.0 Budget' includes a plan to create or preserve 30,000 housing units, supported by an $800 million bond issuance. Mayor Parker emphasized the urgency of the initiative, saying, "We're here to TAKE ACTION." The budget also includes $550 million in labor reserve funds for city workers and a $100 million investment for events celebrating the 250th anniversary of America. Additionally, the plan proposes reducing business taxes while raising parking rates and the Realty Transfer Tax to generate revenue. Mayor Parker stated, "IF WE WORK TOGETHER, THERE IS NOTHING WE CANNOT ACCOMPLISH FOR PHILADELPHIA!" as stated by the City of Philadelphia.
