Wake Forest residents can look forward to the Northern Community Food Security Team's (NCFST) Mobile Market rolling into town again on Thursday, offering locally and regionally sourced groceries in a pay-what-you-can format. In collaboration with Ripe for Revival, the market will set up across from the Northern Regional Center at 350 E. Holding Ave. and will be open from 3 to 5 p.m., rain or shine. According to a recent announcement by the Town of Wake Forest, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC will have a representative available to answer Medicare-related questions for this week's visitors. Additionally, El Pueblo, Inc. will provide resources for the Hispanic and Latino community.
At the heart of the NCFST Mobile Market is the mission to make nutritious food more accessible and affordable for all, irrespective of one's financial situation. Shoppers find an abundance of fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products to choose from, though there are purchase limits on protein, dairy, and eggs, with no cap on produce. During the checkout process, a suggested total is provided, but patrons can decide to pay the full amount, part of it, or nothing at all, with cash and card both accepted methods of payment.
The market doesn't just offer grocery staples, but also a glimpse of hope and inclusivity. Last year, it rendered service to 1,574 patrons and sold over 9,178 lbs. of produce, 3,027 lbs. of protein, and 399 lbs. of dry goods, as detailed by the the Town of Wake Forest. Notably, the sales were made at just 57% of the suggested total price, underlining the market's commitment to affordability and community support.
For those looking to leverage this opportunity, mark the calendars—after March 13, the market makes its next stop on March 27. It's a resource intended for everyone, extending beyond mere transactions to foster a sense of unity and support within the community. Fresh, quality food is ready for the taking, where the only price is what feels right for you to pay.
