The Modesto Police Department has announced a DUI checkpoint for this Friday night. In their efforts to curb impaired driving and ensure safer roads, officers will be conducting stops from 9 PM to 2 AM. The location remains undisclosed, but the department has stated it's based on zones where data indicates a higher incidence of alcohol and drug-related accidents.

"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," said Sergeant Robert Hall in a Modesto Police Department's social media post. He emphasized the importance of preventive measures, stating that driving under the influence seriously impacts community safety.

The police department is reminding the public that substances like prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana can impair driving, even though marijuana is legal in California. Driving under the influence of any of these substances is still illegal.

Drivers caught under the influence can face fines and penalties averaging $13,500, along with a suspended license. The checkpoint is part of a statewide effort, funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to reduce impaired driving.
