On a late Saturday night in Monroe, Michigan, a routine traffic stop swiftly transitioned into a life-saving situation when Monroe police encountered a woman experiencing a seizure amidst a narcotics arrest. CBS News Detroit reports that, at about 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Smith Street, officers conducted a stop which revealed that both the vehicle's driver, a 30-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 45-year-old man, had outstanding warrants.
During the discovery of two small bags of suspected crack cocaine in the driver's possession, the woman began to have a seizure, inadvertently resulting in her becoming momentarily unresponsive. Deploying rapid measures, "Officers administered Narcan, and she subsequently regained consciousness in the backseat of the patrol car," the Monroe Police Department affirmed in a press release. The resuscitation act by the officers came before the woman was scheduled for transport to jail, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
According to details shared in a Facebook post by the Monroe Public Safety Department, the woman also revealed at the hospital that she had consumed four baggies of heroin. After medical evaluation, she was cleared and remanded to the Monroe County Jail. The post detailed how the man was transported to jail without further incidents.
The incident also led to the unearthing of a .22 caliber pistol within the vehicle, bringing additional gravity to the arrest. The Monroe Police Department expressed its gratitude toward the officers involved, stating, "We wish to thank our Officers for their continued hard work in keeping the streets of Monroe safe as we continue to fight against narcotics in our community," as per the CBS News Detroit report. As this story unfolds, charges are being pursued while the community reflects on the pressing narcotics issues within.
