Following a spate of residential burglaries, thefts, and auto thefts between April and December of 2024, Montgomery County police have made significant headway in their investigation. According to a press release from the Montgomery County Department of Police, detectives from the 2nd District Investigative Section have charged three teenagers with multiple crimes related to a series of break-ins and thefts across Bethesda.
Casey Jones, 19, a Bethesda local, Caleb Taylor, 19, from Rockville, and Arden Gormley, 18, from an undisclosed location, have been identified as the individuals behind this wave of residential crimes. The incidents list includes attempted and successful burglaries and several auto thefts, with the accused allegedly forcing their way into houses to commit these acts. Among the instances, an attempted burglary on Davenport Terrance and two first-degree burglaries, on Avalon Drive and Cranston Road, were reported on November 18, as detailed by the Montgomery County Department of Police. The following day, another burglary accompanied by auto theft transpired on Mohican Place.
Further incidents took place throughout November and early December, culminating in the trio's apprehension following a break-in on Massachusetts Avenue. The detailed charges against Jones, Taylor, and Gormley include first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, and theft among other related crimes, as per the department's press release. The police executed search warrants at multiple homes to find evidence connecting the teens to the series of crimes. Items of evidentiary value were recovered, tying them to the string of offenses.
Moreover, during the investigation, detectives linked the trio to over a dozen additional burglaries, not just those reported between April and December of 2024. These findings have led to even more charges being added to their growing list of alleged offenses. As for their custody status, Jones is currently being held without bond whereas Taylor was released on an unsecured personal bond and Gormley was released on his recognizance.
