A street race in Palmdale took a violent turn this past Monday when a motorcycle rider was shot by the driver of a BMW with whom he was competing. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 4:35 P.M. and arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound, as confirmed by the Palmdale Sheriff's Station's Facebook post.

The incident occurred on East Avenue Q near 25th Street East, where the victim reported he was in a westbound race on a motorcycle against a white BMW coming from 30th East. A female passenger from the BMW allegedly made several hand gestures before the rider felt "extreme pain in his right leg," according to details shared by the KTLA report. A good Samaritan who witnessed the event informed the motorcycle rider that he had been shot by the male driver of the car.

First responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department treated the victim at the scene for a through-and-through gunshot wound, the bullet having entered his buttock and exited his right inner thigh. The wounded rider was then transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators at the scene recovered a single 9mm expended shell casing, and with the help of Operation Safe Streets detectives, they managed to identify and detain the suspect later that night. "The detectives were able to identify and arrest the suspect later that night," the Sheriff's Station informed via their social media post. During the arrest, the suspect's vehicle yielded a firearm. The status of the suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, is currently incarcerated at the Palmdale Station.
