A significant traffic collision occurred on Sunday morning, leaving a motorcyclist in critical condition, and causing traffic disruptions in the San Jacinto area. According to San Jacinto Sheriff's Station Sergeant Christopher Loucks, deputies were called to the scene at the intersection of San Jacinto Avenue and Midway Street after a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle were involved in a crash at approximately 9:51 a.m.
Despite quick treatment by paramedics and subsequent transportation to a local hospital, the motorcyclist's injuries were grave; the sports utility vehicle's driver stayed unharmed yet a passenger from the same vehicle was also hospitalized, albeit for precautionary concerns, the San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team since has taken over the thorough inspection of this unfortunate incident, which shuttered a busy roadway for hours on end. The initial findings indicate that the motorcyclist was southbound on San Jacinto Avenue as the sports utility vehicle, traveling west on Midway Street, collided with the motorcycle, according to the deputies' preliminary probe, neither drugs nor alcohol are at this juncture believed to have played a role in this unfortunate event.
The aftermath of the incident necessitated the closure of San Jacinto Avenue between Commonwealth Avenue and E. Menlo Avenue, which lasted about four hours to allow the investigators to process the scene. Traffic flow was restored thereafter once the scene was duly processed and cleared. Local law enforcement is actively seeking witnesses or any persons with information pertinent to the collision and has invited the public to contact Deputy Cortez by phone at the San Jacinto Sheriff's Station or through the Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch.
