New Yorkers experiencing today’s unseasonably warm weather should prepare for a mix of thunderstorms, potentially hazardous conditions, and fluctuating temperatures throughout the week. The National Weather Service has issued a detailed forecast for the coming days across the boroughs, outlining the variable spring weather ahead.
The NWS reports that in Manhattan, today’s breezy temperatures in the lower 80s will transition to a cooler, mostly cloudy Sunday with a slight chance of rain. This pattern is expected to be similar in the surrounding boroughs.
As detailed in similar forecasts by the National Weather Service, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island residents can also expect variable clouds and mild temperatures, with a 50 percent chance of showers on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, The Hazardous Weather Outlook cautions those venturing near waterways. "Air temperatures on land this afternoon will rise to the 70s to lower 80s, while water temperatures remain in the 40s," warns the outlook. The cold water temperatures pose a significant danger, as they "can quickly cause hypothermia and physical incapacitation to anyone suddenly immersed in the water."
Looking ahead to Monday, the outlook is wetter and warmer, with a 60 percent chance of showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. The boroughs will witness similar conditions, with temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to near 70 degrees. The night promises to continue the stormy trend, with a high likelihood of showers accompanied by areas of fog. "Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers," predicts the NWS for regions including The Bronx, paralleling the forecasts across New York City.
