Get ready for some nighttime disruptions if you're planning to hit the Triangle Expressway in North Carolina anytime soon. According to a release posted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, you're going to see lane and shoulder closures along the eastbound lanes between the N.C. 55 Bypass interchange and the Holly Springs Road interchange starting Monday through April 11, happening every night from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
The deal here is they'll be installing and testing out some new toll gantry equipment on that eastbound stretch, and they're doing it overnight in an attempt to not mess too much with your daytime travel plans. They've promised that at least one lane will stay open for the traffic that needs to get through. Still, you'll want to tack on some extra minutes to your trip if you're driving through that zone during those scheduled times.
Now, while this shouldn't touch the westbound lanes, anyone rolling east after dark is going to need to keep their eyes peeled. The lane and shoulder closures are, of course, depending on the weather behaving. That means you'll need to stay sharp and slow down when you're navigating the area because work zones like these can be tricky, and safety—for you and the work crews—is key.
Once this project kicks off, don't forget to plan ahead. The North Carolina Turnpike Authority suggests building in extra travel time while driving through that work zone during the closures. And remember, anything messing with your commute is a headache, sure, but let's give these workers the space and respect they need to get this all sorted out. So go ahead, adjust your schedule, and keep it safe on the roads, folks.
