Gun safety is taking a front seat in North Carolina, as the NC S.A.F.E. Campaign teams up with the National Guard to distribute gun locks across the state. A press conference scheduled for today at the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters will reveal details about this new partnership, reflecting a commitment to curbing firearm-related incidents among service members and their families.
This initiative comes as a response to the need for increased firearm safety among National Guard soldiers and airmen. In a statement obtained by North Carolina Department of Public Safety, NC S.A.F.E. has already provided 10,000 gun locks to the NC National Guard, aiming to mitigate the risk of self-harm and secure the well-being of military families in the state.
Representatives from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and NC National Guard will be present at the conference to discuss the partnership in greater detail. Notable officials, such as North Carolina Secretary of Public Safety Eddie Buffaloe Jr., NC National Guard Brigadier General Charles Morrison, and DPS Deputy Secretary for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention William Lassiter are among the scheduled speakers.
The availability of gun locks is intended to offer a simple, yet effective measure for service members to practice safe firearm storage. "Secure All Firearms Effectively" is not just the campaign's name, but it’s creed, a reminder that responsibility starts within the smallest units of our community, as per the North Carolina Department of Public Safety website.
