The North Las Vegas Police Department is reaching out to individuals interested in serving their community, hosting a Hiring Symposium on March 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The informational gathering will take place at the NLVPD’s North Central Area Command, located at 1090 W. Deer Springs Way, as reported by the City of North Las Vegas news release.
Those attending can expect to directly engage with police officers, to fully receive insights into the day-to-day expectations of the job, and assess if a career in law enforcement aligns with their aspirations. The symposium will also shed light on the nuances of the application and testing processes and clarify the qualifications required for applicants. This move comes in a bid to potentially reshape the public’s perception of police work and to offer a concrete perspective on the profession beyond media portrayals.
"The public’s perception of police officers is often shaped by what they see portrayed on television shows or the news, but the reality of law enforcement’s beneficial role in the community can be vastly different," according to a statement on the City of North Las Vegas official website. She further highlighted the intention to demystify the nature of police work and its community impact.
For those considering the leap or already decided on pursuing a career in blue, the City of North Las Vegas is sweetening the deal with a series of hiring incentives. Recruits and lateral transfers from other law enforcement agencies alike are eligible, with incentives including a $30,000 bonus for lateral officers, a $5,000 relocation allowance for newcomers living in North Las Vegas, and a $5,000 incentive for military members who have been honorably discharged or are active in the National Guard and Reserves, contingent on successfully being hired after passing background checks.
