The North Las Vegas Fire Department is expanding its workforce with the addition of eight new firefighters who have completed a 20-week training program. The culmination of their efforts will be observed at a graduation ceremony slated for Thursday at 1 p.m. at the North Las Vegas City Hall, according to a recent announcement.
The induction ceremony will mark the transition of these individuals from recruits to full-fledged firefighters, symbolizing their new status and the city's commitment to community safety, as outlined in the Strategic Plan 2025-2030. The event will take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. N. The program will include a badge-pinning ceremony, where each recruit’s badge will be attached to their uniform by a family member.
Fire Chief Joseph Calhoun expressed enthusiasm over the new additions to the fire department, stating, "I am thrilled to welcome eight new firefighters to the North Las Vegas Fire family and commend their commitment to protecting and serving the city’s residents and businesses," as reported by the City of North Las Vegas. Attendees of the ceremony will witness the recitation of the oath-taking, formalizing their dedication and readiness to serve.
The incoming personnel, aged 19 to 29, bring diverse backgrounds, including military experience—three are former Navy or Air Force members. Additionally, one recruit represents the second generation and another the third in their family to pursue a career in firefighting.
The addition of new personnel is aimed at strengthening the department’s capacity to address a range of emergencies, including fires, medical crises, vehicle accidents, and technical rescue operations.
