A 68-year-old man is in critical condition following a two-alarm townhome fire in Owings Mills, as confirmed by the Baltimore County Fire Department. FOX Baltimore reported that the incident took place on Wednesday, with firefighters arriving at the scene on the 9800 block of Bon Haven Lane at around 3:51 p.m. to find the structure's rear ablaze.
During a search of the engulfed home, firefighters discovered the man in cardiac arrest on the property's third floor, the fire engulfing the place, making it difficult to navigate and rescue the man. Medics were, however, able to administer life-saving measures while transporting him to a local hospital. He remains in a state of critical condition. The Baltimore County Government website notes the swift action of EMS providers who began resuscitative efforts immediately upon locating the individual, successfully reviving him en route to the medical facility.
Authorities have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental, stemming from improperly discarded smoking materials found on the home's deck. Fire investigators from the Baltimore County Police Department have corroborated this information, ensuring the public that the devastating event was not a result of any foul play but a tragic oversight.
