The City of Palmdale is doubling down on its efforts to support the community's mental health and well-being, rolling out a series of initiatives meant to address a range of issues from substance abuse to financial insecurity. Residents can look forward to a myriad of events including a prevention summit, developmental programs for youth, and training aimed at enhancing local prevention services.

Mayor Richard Loa emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating, "Ensuring mental health and well-being is close to my heart and a top priority in Palmdale," as reported by the City of Palmdale's press release. The mayor encourages community members to actively participate in the upcoming events, in order to truly to contribute to shaping a healthier Palmdale.

An event on the horizon is the Many Voices One Vision Prevention Summit, scheduled for April 30 to May 1. This summit is designed to build a thriving community while tackling important topics such as mental health and violence prevention. Hosted at the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, the summit aims to forge stronger connections among residents. For those interested in diving deeper into personal growth, the Certificate of Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) offers an eight-month program beginning in May, with scholarship applications available until April 30.

Young people in the city haven't been left out of these progressive plans; Youth Development Days aim to nurture resilience and leadership within the younger population through collaboration with local schools. Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt expressed the City's pride in expanding their partnership with The Wellbeing Lab, highlighting initiatives like the CAPP program and Youth Development Days as investments in the personal and collective growth of not just Palmdale but the broader Antelope Valley area.

Another key event, Operation Engage, is set for March 14. This event—part of the Fight Fentanyl Antelope Valley Campaign—involves collaboration with the DEA and will include capacity building and sustainability training for local prevention providers. The sessions at the Marie Kerr Park Recreation Center are open for local service providers and aim to improve their capacity and effectiveness in tackling these issues. To learn more about Operation Engage and other initiatives, Deputy City Manager Nardy Lopez is available to provide information to those interested.
