A tragic incident unfolded in Playa del Rey late Sunday evening as a pedestrian was struck and killed following a two-car collision. The accident, which occurred at approximately 7:11 p.m. near Dockweiler State Beach, tragically took the life of a woman when one of the vehicles involved veered off the road and down a cliff. According to NBC Los Angeles, the woman was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.
The specifics of what caused the crash are still to be determined, as authorities are in the middle of an investigation. A witness at the scene, Andrew Lovegren, described the haunting moment to NBC Los Angeles, stating, "We were just sitting here enjoying the sunset and you hear a car coming flying by. Not too long later, you hear lifeguards and police, fire and ambulances just swarming."
In the wake of the incident, fire department officials found the victim, a 25-year-old female, whose identity has not been disclosed, as reported by CBS News.
Additionally, a 70-year-old man was treated for minor injuries, though it remains unclear if he was connected to one of the vehicles or an additional pedestrian. The Los Angeles Fire Department provided immediate assistance, but despite their efforts, the female victim was beyond medical help. The LAFD officially documented the incident in an alert stating, "Unfortunately the (age unknown) female patient struck by the car is beyond medical help and determined deceased on scene," a somber confirmation provided by their official alert notice.
