In an unprecedented move, the Philadelphia City Council is preparing for a special session on Monday to unpack Mayor Cherelle L. Parker's ambitious H.O.M.E. initiative. The Housing Opportunities Made Easy plan forms the crux of Parker's agenda to create and preserve housing in the city.
When the clock strikes 10 a.m. today, City Council Chambers will witness this historic discussion, which represents the first of its kind focused solely on housing issues. Mayor Parker is expected to provide a comprehensive outline of her initiative, with plans that push for a significant $800 million bond issuance to propel the housing strategy as part of her administration's Five-Year Plan. Notably, the Council will break from the standard order of proceedings, for during this session, no bills nor resolutions will be introduced or enacted," according to the announcement.
According to the Philadelphia City Council's announcement, Council President Kenyatta Johnson convened this special meeting after Mayor Parker called for it, asserting that this action underscores the priority placed on the H.O.M.E. initiative within the public business.
