A veteran Philadelphia police officer was injured after a man, recently served with a protection-from-abuse order, rammed his SUV into her patrol vehicle, authorities reported. The incident, which took place at about 1 a.m. Thursday, in the Bustleton section of the city, the officer's vehicle had serious front damage, and multiple airbags were deployed, as per 6ABC.
According to detective statements detailed by CBS News Philadelphia, the 40-year-old man's wife accused him of abuse, leading to the protection order that required him to leave the apartment complex. When the officers returned to their vehicle for paperwork, the suspect reversed his Lexus SUV at a high speed into the officer's cruiser, causing her injuries. Still, despite being shaken up and bruised, she apprehended the suspect. The 19-year veteran was subsequently taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for medical assessment and is expected to recover fully.
The assailant, whose identity has not been disclosed, is now facing several charges, including assault on a police officer. The case's specifics are still unfolding, and more details about the charges are awaited. The motivation behind the suspect's aggressive act has not been explicitly disclosed, but the severity of the collision suggests an intentional act of violence towards the police officer.
