Pierce County is launching a five-year housing plan to address homelessness. As mandated by the Washington State Department of Commerce, the county's Human Services department will spearhead the initiative, syncing local efforts with the state's strategic goals and legislative reporting requirements on homelessness.

A coalition of community stakeholders—including service providers, elected officials, advocates, and those with lived experience—is shaping the plan. Pierce County's announcement states that outreach activities will run from spring through late 2025, gathering resident input to refine housing solutions.

Pierce County is ensuring broad representation in planning, involving behavioral health organizations, homeless outreach services, emergency shelters, domestic violence housing providers, rental subsidy administrators, and permanent supportive housing experts.

"Community input is central to the plan’s development," said Pierce County Homeless Programs supervisor Devon Isakson. Gaining consensus and commitment from residents is essential, making this plan a collaborative effort shaped by those it aims to support.

By year’s end, Pierce County plans to integrate this strategy into its Comprehensive Plan to End Homelessness, meeting state requirements. Those interested in participating or staying informed can find details on the county’s homeless plan webpage.
