A harrowing home invasion in Queens has left a NYC woman and her nanny bound with duct tape as burglars made off with over $1 million in valuables. According to CBS News, the incident, which included the theft of a wedding ring, Hermes, and Chanel bags, occurred last Wednesday, March 19, around 7:30 p.m. Surveillance footage captured five masked individuals forcing their way into the residence after the nanny stepped outside briefly to dispose of garbage.
The 36-year-old homeowner, speaking to CBS News, recounted her terrifying experience as she was initially locked in a closet and later allowed to remain with her daughter who was awake and screaming in another room. Her two young sons slept through the ordeal. The homeowner and her nanny were eventually able to free themselves when the burglars left, only to see them return again, fortunately thwarting another entry. A neighbor reportedly observed a group of masked men loitering in a park shortly before the burglary.
The NYPD has disclosed that a sixth accomplice waited in a white 2021 Toyota RAV4, used to flee the scene. The Gothamist also reports that the suspects stole clothing and other items, amounting to an estimated $1.1 million in value.
Law enforcement is actively seeking the public's assistance to identify and apprehend the suspects involved. The NYPD has released images of the suspects, urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline. "My nanny went out to throw out the garbage, and then when she was coming back in, they followed her in," the homeowner told CBS News. The police investigation continues.
