Tragedy struck the racing world last week when 27-year-old harness driver Hunter Myers lost his life in a racing accident at The Meadows. According to CBS News Pittsburgh, a ceremony was held recently to remember the young talent taken too soon, as hundreds from the racing community and public gathered for an emotional tribute. The solemnity began with a silent procession, leading many to reflect on Myers' potential and the grievous loss felt by his fiancée Chloe and their young son.
Hunter Myers, one of the top ten horse racing drivers nationwide, was honored at The Meadows, where a tribute walk took life, led by Killer Instinct, a horse with which Myers had found considerable success. The tight-knit community paused its races following the accident and resumed wearing green and white in solidarity, with Myers’ initials adorned on their sleeves, WPXI reported. "He was a nice person, nicest person you could meet. What everyone says about him is true," Barbara Murdock, a horse owner, praised the fallen driver.
Meanwhile, the Meadows Racetrack & Casino has vowed to find a permanent way to commemorate Myers, ensuring his legacy endures within the grounds where his passion for the sport bloomed. As the community grapples with their first-ever fatality, they held a moving memorial service, complete with a montage of Myers' career highlights. "That’s the first fatality here ever. It doesn’t happen that often ... but it was something that we all wanted to do for him," Lu Goans, a racehorse trainer, stated, as reported by WTAE.
