The City of Raleigh has an offer that might pique your interest. Their Summer Youth Employment Program is promising more than just a paycheck; it's a chance to gain practical experience, pick up new skills, and even find some direction in the maze of potential career paths. The deadline to get your application in is March 31, so if you're interested, you'll want to move quickly.
As outlined on the city's official website, a total of 200 young people will be selected to work within various city departments over a seven-week period which commences June 16 and runs through August 8. If you're chosen, not only will you be earning some cash, you'll also be thrown into a mix of educational segments covering financial literacy, civic engagement, and leadership development.
The program isn't just about the work. There's also a strong emphasis on mentorship, with the likes of local firefighters, law enforcement, and notable business professionals volunteering their time. Heavy hitters such as Bank of America and UNC Health are on board to guide participants through the summer, each sharing wisdom from their respective fields.
However, there are a few boxes you'll need to check before you apply. Candidates must live within the Raleigh city limits, be ready to rock from June to August without missing more than five days, not be booked for summer school, and pass a Criminal Record Check and Drug Screening. There's an orientation on May 17 you can't miss either, plus, you’ll need consistent computer and internet access if opting for the virtual elements of the program.
Those who want to throw their hats in the ring should visit Raleigh's official careers page to fill out the online application and complete a virtual interview. If you have any questions or need more information, reaching out to Rebekah Dixon, Youth Employment Program Manager, at [email protected] is the way to go.
