The National Weather Service reports showers and mountain snow today with cooler temperatures, but conditions will clear on Tuesday. However, another weather system will bring light valley rain and mountain snow from Tuesday evening into Thursday, with the heaviest precipitation expected south of I-80, especially in the foothills and mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will stay below normal. Valley highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s, with lows in the 30s to mid-40s in higher elevations. On Thursday, snow levels will drop from 5,000–6,000 feet to 3,500–4,500 feet. Travelers to higher elevations should check road conditions and chain control advisories, as reported by the National Weather Service.
A ridge will bring clear skies on Friday before a storm moves in on Sunday, with a 50-80% chance of over half an inch of rain, mountain snow, and strong winds. Winds on Saturday may reach 25-30 MPH in the northern areas. In aviation, Sacramento skies will stay mostly VFR, with some MVFR/IFR conditions in the morning. Winds up to 20 knots are expected in the foothills and mountains until around 02z Tuesday, as stated by the National Weather Service.
