An officer nearby was flagged down by the victim minutes after the culprits fled, leading to a fast response where Lopez-Lopez, in his bid to escape the scene on his bicycle, was swiftly intercepted by additional law enforcement officers. He was apprehended without incident after a brief pursuit. "Additional officers in the surrounding area located one of the suspects within minutes," the San Rafael Police Department clarified, emphasizing the rapid response that led to the discovery of a loaded handgun, which was found jettisoned behind some bushes, with investigators now tasked with tracking its history.
The apprehended Lopez-Lopez has been booked into the Marin County Jail for several felonies, including armed robbery and evading an officer, with bail set at $75,000. The first suspect's property was found to include not just the firearm but a controlled substance as well, according to the arrest report.
