The National Weather Service in Seattle has released a forecast confirming that the Seattle area is to expect a series of rainy days ahead. According to the latest update from the NWS, the city saw rain overnight with a low around 39 degrees and a southwest wind trailing at about 8 mph. With a humidity that’s clinging at 75 percent, the drizzle feels all but inevitable in the Pacific Northwest skies.
Thursday’s weather could quickly ramp up the ante with the chance of rain and thunderstorms, leading to showers and possible thunderstorms after 1 pm. A high near 48 degrees is expected, with south-southwest winds blowing 9 to 15 mph, and those gusts could reach heights as high as 24 mph. "Chance of precipitation is 90%," the NWS stated. Rainfall estimates for Thursday range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, though that number could increase where thunderstorms occur.
The rainy pattern is here to stay, at least through the end of the week. Thursday night will maintain the trend with a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms and mostly cloudy skies. The low should hover around 36 degrees, while winds from the south-southwest keep up their pace at 7 to 13 mph. Friday will likely see more rain under mostly cloudy skies with a high near 50 degrees and light southeast winds shifting northeast in the afternoon.
Looking ahead to the weekend, it seems residents will need to keep their umbrellas close at hand. The steadiness of rain continues on Saturday, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible. "Chance of precipitation is 100%," according to the NWS forecast. Saturday night’s outlook appears just as wet, with low temperatures around 41 degrees and a persistent dance of raindrops expected to hold through the night.
The dreary conditions are slated to persist, with rain forecasted for Sunday through Wednesday. With highs consistently near 50 degrees, it promises a cool dampness that Seattleites know all too well. Sunday night and Monday will also see several bouts of rain—mostly cloudy skies becoming a common refrain through the forecast period. As for Tuesday and Wednesday, rain continues to be likely, with partly sunny to mostly cloudy conditions taking turns. Each night, lows will dip just slightly, staying in the upper 30s.
