In a cooperative show of commitment to global human rights, Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Chris Coons (D-DE) recently made a move to establish a bipartisan Senate Human Rights Commission. According to a statement released on Tillis's official site, the resolution was introduced to investigate human rights violations thoroughly and to convene regular hearings and briefings on the promotion of international human rights.
"I’m honored to join Senator Coons as co-chair of the Senate Human Rights Caucus and to introduce this resolution establishing the Senate Human Rights Commission," Tillis said in the announcement, per Tillis's official site. The creation of this commission stems from a desire to strengthen the Senate's commitment to defending the dignity and freedom of individuals the world over. It aims to provide a crucial platform for raising awareness, soliciting expert opinions, and advocating for the fundamental rights of people across the globe.
Senator Coons also expressed his advocacy, affirming his continued dedication to the cause. "As a co-chair of the Senate Human Rights Caucus, I’m proud to continue to stand up for those who are denied their most basic freedoms all around the world, and I’ll continue to work on their behalf," Coons stated, as cited by Tillis's official site. The senators believe that the commission will further their capabilities in supporting millions globally who face a spectrum of injustices, including violence, abuse, oppression, and wrongful imprisonment.
