Stephen Edward Wynn, a registered sex offender with a previous conviction for sexual crimes, has been handed down a four-year sentence by a Circuit Court after being found guilty of failing to comply with sex offender reporting requirements in Florida. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office shared this update yesterday, detailing the developments in Wynn's case, revealing that he was initially captured by U.S. Marshals in Georgia after severing his GPS ankle monitor upon release.
Originally arrested on August 8, 2024, Wynn was charged with one count of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Reporting Requirements. Despite being released two days later, authorities were alerted the very next day that he had cut off his ankle monitor and was allegedly on the run. It was reported that before absconding, Wynn withdrew a significant sum of money from a bank and left his residence driving a family member’s 2014 gray Jeep Patriot with the Florida tag IZ93ES.
Wynn's adjudicated guilt in 2019 in Stark County, N.D., for Gross Sexual Imposition and Sexual Battery on Adult Victim with Aggravating Circumstances had previously mandated his registration as a sex offender. This conviction required him adhere to Florida's registration requirements, which he failed to comply with, resulting in a new chapter of legal consequences for his actions.
The Sheriff's Office had sought the public's help in locating Wynn through their official communication channels, offering a reward for information leading to his apprehension. They encouraged individuals with any knowledge regarding Wynn's whereabouts to either call them directly or approach Hernando County Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous and potentially receive a reward up to $5,000.
