Isaiah Chase, a 27-year-old from Silver Spring, MD, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his involvement in an armed robbery at Busboys and Poets on K Street, NW.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton also ordered that Chase be monitored under supervised release for five years after his prison sentence. The prosecution was led by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., FBI Special Agent Sean Ryan, and MPD Chief Pamela Smith. They shared details of the sentence yesterday.

The robbery took place on February 6, 2022, when Chase, along with his accomplices, entered Busboys and Poets wearing dark clothing and masks. Despite brandishing firearms, they failed to steal cash but took keys to the establishment.

Chase was arrested on November 4, 2022, at his home in Silver Spring. A search of the property uncovered a loaded Glock 27, a .556 caliber machine gun, an AM-15 rifle, extra magazines, and bags of marijuana prepared for distribution. Chase pled guilty on August 5, 2024, admitting to using a firearm during the robbery.

The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force and the MPD's Carjacking Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Solomon Eppel and Matthew Kinskey.
