A case that has haunted Southeast D.C. for five years reached its conclusion. Guy Johnson, 57, was found guilty by a Superior Court jury on multiple counts, including second-degree murder while armed, for a March 2020 homicide. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

During the trial, overseen by Superior Court Judge Danya A. Dayson, Johnson was accused of firing into a white Kia Forte. The shooting, which took place on March 25, 2020, killed 28-year-old Kriston Robinson and narrowly missed a second victim, who escaped unharmed. The guilty verdicts included second-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

The Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, assisted by former Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Kimak, investigated the events leading up to the fatal incident. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gregory Evans and Anthony Cocuzza, who presented a compelling narrative to the jury.

The evidence showed that the attack occurred around 3:17 a.m. on that day. The jury found that Johnson was the person who shot multiple times into the car, with one bullet striking Robinson in the head, leading to his death.
