Residents across southeastern Wisconsin are bracing for a day of disruptive weather as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Wind Warning in effect for the early morning through noon today, followed by a Wind Advisory lasting until later in the afternoon. NWS has cautioned that areas including Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, Walworth, and Waukesha counties will see south winds from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts possibly up to 60 mph.
The weather service anticipates a tumultuous day, expecting "Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected," as per the Hazardous Weather Outlook. Given the conditions, it is advised that travel will be difficult, particularly for those driving high-profile vehicles. With wind gusts strong enough to pick it up, loose objects are likely to be blown around, leading to potential further hazards.
Milwaukee's forecast paints a picture of swiftly changing skies, with temperatures swinging from a high near 62°F today to potential light snow overnight. Such unpredictability is a staple in this corner of the Midwest. "Light snow potential late tonight for southeast Wisconsin primarily," the outlook from the NWS reads, hinting at a likely messy commute come Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook, the upcoming week doesn't promise much respite, with more snow potential and gusty winds expected Wednesday and Wednesday night. Residents should prepare for varied precipitation and continuing strong winds that, driving home the urgency, spotter activation will likely be needed this evening.
